1530. Karina Cooper
Karina Cooper is the author of the steampunk literature series, The St. Croix Chronicles, a steampunk/historical urban fantasy.
She is the author of dark and sexy paranormal romances, steampunk adventures, crossover urban fantasy, and writes across multiple genres. Her award winning steampunk series, The St. Croix Chronicles, is the Romantic Times (RT) Reviewers Choice Awards recipient for Best Steampunk Novel 2012, as well as a proud recipient of January 2013's Seal of Excellence nomination.
Karina's first book was a paranormal romance series set in a post-apocalyptic Seattle built on the ashes of a renewed Witch Hunt. Although she started with this particular genre, she quickly developed ideas and story concepts for all different kinds of books in many genres. While at an Abney Park concert, she was inspired for a story involving a restricted heiress leading a double life in London's dangerous streets. Thus was The St. Croix Chronicles born, beginning the many misadventures of Cherry St. Croix.
Karina is actively involved with the writing community, giving panels on steampunk as a setting, gender roles, and LGBTQ characters and expectations. She calls herself an "aesthetic steampunk", often heard to say that she enjoys the look of it and doesn't worry so much about how it works. She's known to be an outspoken activist on behalf of creative self-expression, as well as a crusader for equal rights in her various communities. In 2012 and 2013, she helped coordinate and launch The Fantastical Mr. Flip's Carnival of Wonders and Curiosities, a Bellingham, WA one-day event designed to introduce local steampunk musicians, authors, makers and performers to the community at large.
She is also the author of The Dark Mission novels, a paranormal romance/urban fantasy series. In 2013, she published Wicked Lies , a novella in that series, and donated the profits to the It Gets Better Project, which is committed to raising awareness for LGBTQ youth, to fund suicide prevention and help hotlines.
In additon to writing, she is also a gamer, enjoying video games, table top and live-action role play, anime, and the occasional miniature warfare binge. She loves the ocean but despises lakes and lake-related forms of activities. A steampunk fashionista, she enjoys the many forms and variety of outfits.
In the end, she believes that magic is real, the future is a mess, love is both awesome and painful, and stories can be the same way.
