LOWELL — Lowell police, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Department of Children and Families are investigating exactly what happened to a 3-year-old girl who was found at home with two broken legs on Friday afternoon.

Capt. Timothy Crowley said police were called to 345 Hildreth St., Friday about 4:45 p.m., for a report of an injured child, and discovered a 3-year-old girl in a bedroom suffering from a broken leg.

That girl was taken to a city hospital where doctors discovered her other leg was also broken, according to police.

Crowley said the girl’s parents also have a 6-year-old and an 8-year-old, and that all three children are in DCF custody as the investigation unfolds.

Crowley said no charges have been filed and that an investigation remains ongoing. He said investigators have not yet been able to speak to the 3-year-old, but plan to do so as soon as possible.
