UPDATE: The charges against Chris Brown have been dropped, this according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. “The victim alleging that he was battered by recording artist Chris Brown has told LVMPD detectives that he no longer wants to go forward with criminal charges. This case will not be pursued any further,” read a statement from the LVMPD.

EARLIER: Chris Brown is suspected of battery following an altercation during a basketball game at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

According to a release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a verbal dispute on the court escalated to a physical fight after a man, later identified as Brown, allegedly punched the victim. The victim was hit a second time by another man allegedly with Brown.

The victim was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries and later released. The release states Brown was given a choice between signing a citation for misdemeanor battery, or having the case submitted to the Clark County DA’s office and face prosecution.

The news comes just over a month after a California judge ended Brown’s probation following his 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna.

Brown’s rep could not immediately be reached for comment.
