SLED charges Upstate police officer with misconduct
A 33-year-old Upstate police officer has been arrested and charged with misconduct in office.
A release from the State Law Enforcement Division said Johnathan Prentiss Gash, who was a Wellford police officer, had evidence that belong to the police department in the trunk of his personal vehicle, and non-submitted evidence in the trunk of his assigned patrol car in October 2014. The release said Gash was also driving with a suspended license.
Gash was arrested and booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center on Thursday following a SLED investigation that was requested by the Wellford Police Department.
The release did not say specifically what type of evidence Gash had in the vehicles.
The release said a conviction on the charges carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
