GREENSBORO āĀ UNCG will celebrate the 25th anniversary of passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act with events on campus Sunday and Monday.
The ADA Legacy Tour Bus āThe Road to Freedom,ā will visit campus from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. The bus has several exhibits that chronicle the legislation and its impact. Visitors can sign a quilt already signed by advocates at other tour stops.
The bus will be parked on College Avenue in front of the UNCG Alumni House. Greensboro is one of the bus' three scheduled stops in North Carolina.
On Monday, UNCG will hold an educational program featuring several speakers starting at 11 a.m. in the Elliot University Center auditorium. Additional festivities, including food trucks, music, entertainment and giveaways, will follow at noon.

The events will highlight UNCG'sĀ Beyond AcademicsĀ program, the state's first and only four-year certificate program for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program expects to have 64 students enrolled in the fall, which UNCG says makes it one of the largest programs of its kind in the nation.

The ADA was signed into law July 26, 1990. The historic civil rights legislation has led to sweeping changes in accessibility to employment, goods, services and programs for people with physical and mental disabilities.
