RC1 is now up. I fixed the password bug from this morning...and ran a few
updates. I also installed a program that your writing teachers may like
called PyRoom (the same as WriteRoom for the Mac) which is a
distraction-free word processing program. It was small....I like it...so
I added it. Anyway...finish testing...and barring any more
show-stoppers...this will be the image declared ready for production.
Keep feeding me info....and feedback.

Start those downloading and imaging engines!

Also...please share stories. We want to know how it's going out
there....how do the kids and staff like it? How's the imaging going?
What cool things have you done? Have you had kids image their own? let
us know!

So far so good. Haven't heard of any issues. Thanks for all the hard work.

Hey,
Does anyone have any stats on the EEE PC breakage rates this year so far.  I am just curious, since I have been hearing a lot about breakage on the macbooks, but nothing so far on the Asus machines.

I'm interested in this as well. I just deployed 120 of them. I've had
some odd issues with the trackpad not working properly but a restart
fixes it every time. I haven't seen what type of damage to expect from
them.

We already have 2 with broken screens and NSI is waiting to get a price
for parts from ASUS.

Of our 1160ish machines we have we've had a few screen breaks are the major damage. Most of that is due to students miss handling the machines. We have had a few dead batteries and a dead charger. From the forums it seems like the chargers are the major point of failure but we have yet to experience that with 1200 machines 1160 in the wild running the old V18 image. These are just the hardware issues.

Software issues are ruled easily by GDM errors. I really hope this goes away in the new image cause the only thing we can do to fix it is reimage.
