Be a Good Receiver

All mantras are different vibrations of the one common vibration, OM. Your ultimate aim is to realize that OM or cosmic hum. To receive God fully you must become a good receiver.   Swami Satchidananda

How to Cultivate Self-Mastery
By Sri Swami Satchidananda

Once you become the master of your body, mind, and senses, you truly become the master of everything. If you are unable to curb a negative thought, at least try not to speak the thought. And if you can’t control the thought or the speaking of the thought, control the action. If you have had a thought that might hurt someone or yourself but then you are able to have a more positive action, that is what is meant by skillfully mastering the mind.  MORE

Happy New Year! The calendar year has ended and people all over the world are ready for a fresh start. All of us in the Northern Hemisphere are now seeing the return of light to our days, which is an ideal time to recommit ourselves to awakening the inner spiritual Light. In addition, the COVID vaccine offers us hope that we may once again be able to be together with friends and family in 2021. This worldwide pandemic and other events this year have been teaching us many lessons.  MORE

In this conversation, Heike Farkas (director, Integral Yoga Germany) and Avi Gordon (director, IYTA) discuss how to shift our attitude toward challenges, the practice of humility, and the importance of having fun. Heike Amma Farkas has been practicing Yoga since the late 1980s. Auspiciously, she met Swami Satchidananda in 1990 when she was working on a ship bound for Alaska. She opened an Integral Yoga Center near Munich in 1999.

It is New Year’s Resolution time—time to set intentions and goals for 2021. I’ve personally set New Year’s Resolutions each year since I was a 10-year-old. As a life coach, when December rolls around, many of my clients spend a full one or two sessions with me to discover and develop their goals for the upcoming year. This year, I decided to use the following framework for not simply defining my goals, but also as a framework for my clients in their resolution defining sessions.  MORE

In this short video, Poet Naomi Shihab Nye reads her inspiring poem "Gate A-4."  She wrote this about an experience she had while traveling. "And I looked around that gate of late and weary ones and I thought, This  is the world I want to live in. The shared world." She read this as part of "Incredible Bridges: Poets Creating Community," a project developed by the Academy of American Poets and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

During these challenging times, the stresses and strains on our relationships can take a toll. What does Yoga have to say about this? Swami Asokananda and Rev. Prem discuss relationships (with oneself & others), communication, and how to respond vs. react. Incorporating Yoga's "Four Keys," and Buddhisms "Four Immeasurables," episode 9 of the "Two Old Fogey Yogis" podcast is a revelation! Listen on Soundcloud, iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeart Radio, Pandora or wherever you listen to podcasts.

A few weeks ago, we featured an article on "Sri Guru Gita" and a link to purchase the CD/DVD set. The hard copies sold out, so now we're making a digital download available. The package includes the full Gita (in Sanskrit & English), the video (selected verses), and a PDF booklet of "Sri Guru Gita." If you purchased the hard copy, the link to find the verses no longer works, but you can email us and we can give you a new link plus access to the digital audio (mp3).

During Hanukkah, Yogaville community member Harini (Haris) Lender & her husband Evan hosted an outdoor service and celebration. Harini is the founder of Kidding Around Yoga and organized the Yogaville Summer Camp for many years.

Harini also hosted a "Pie & Chai" outdoors on her beautiful land. Before winter set in, the Yogaville Community Association organized these weekly outdoor gatherings hosted by various community members (all following Covid protocol).
