Matthieu De Maupeou and his wife Mayliz, a French couple, who are on an extended honeymoon cycling across the world, are now in Odisha.
They married in July 2014. Matthieu is a waste recycling consultant in Paris and his wife a lawyer. Adding some novelty to their marital bond, they decided to cycle for a year rather than going on a short honeymoon vacation. “We felt this trip would provide maximum scope for us to know each other,” they said.
They had started their journey from France on July 27 last. In the last seven months, they have cycled 10,879 kilometres in 11 countries including France, Italy, Croatia, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Sri Lanka.
They use a customised two-seater cycle with facility to carry their necessities like sleeping bags, a tent, inflatable mattresses, spare tyres and utensils.
Mayliz says she reads books while her husband peddles on. Family members of the couple had gifted the cycle as a wedding gift.
They flew to Mumbai along with their customised cycle. They cycled through Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh before reaching Odisha. They will fly to Cambodia from where they will cycle to Vietnam in the last lap of their honeymoon trip.
