Police believe burglaries at three cellphone stores in three metro cities are related.
The first break-in was reported about 1:35 a.m. Wednesday at an AT&T store in Byram. The front glass door was broken and more than a dozen display phones and tablets were stolen, police said.
About 30 minutes later, the Verizon store on West Government Street in Brandon was burglarized, Brandon Police Chief William Thompson said. The thief used a rock or a brick to break the glass door at the store and stole a few display phones there, too, Thompson said.
"This is Brandon's first business break-in this year, so we're taking this seriously," Thompson said.
Surveillance video recorded at 3 a.m. shows crooks breaking into a Verizon store in Jackson. Employees said a rock was used in that case, too. The thieves were in and out in less than two minutes with several display phones and tablets, employees said.
Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.
