U.S. Border Patrol held a mobile exercise training Friday in Sunland Park, New Mexico, near the Anapra area.

Several teams within the federal agency took part, including the special operations detachment, mobile response team, agents on horseback and agents with K-9s.

The training is almost one week after the San Ysidro port of entry was temporarily closed in California. That was in response to the migrant caravan that arrived in Tijuana and tried to cross to San Diego.

Agents in El Paso said Friday’s training was not a direct response to last week’s incident.

“These trainings allow us to be prepared just in case anything were to happen in the immediate border area, but not only that any type of civil disturbances that may happen in the border so we can be prepared and know what our capabilities are,” Agent Fidel Baca said.

Earlier in November agents within the El Paso sector held a similar exercise in which they temporarily closed the Paso Del Norte Bridge for the training. That training was in El Paso’s urban downtown and included officers from Customs and Border Protection.
