Discovering good movies, one bad movie at a time

Greetings, AE-lien life forms! Last week I had the pleasure of sitting down virtually with some of the cast and crew of The Orville: New Horizons. Please enjoy our conversations and remember to check out the show, which premieres exclusively on Hulu on June 2.

The Orville: New Horizons follows the crew of the eponymous ship, led by Captain Ed Mercer (show creator Seth MacFarlane) along their mission of exploration for the Planetary Union. The show mixes comedy, drama, fantasy, and even horror as the crew of the USS Orville navigate mysteries and conflicts large and small.

In anticipation of the premiere, we’ll be releasing one interview a day through June 2. Enjoy our conversations, and stay tuned for my review of the season!

PART ONE: Peter Macon (Lt. Cmdr. Bortus), Chad L. Coleman (Klyden), Mark Jackson (Isaac) and I discuss the unusual characters they play, the strengths of The Orville compared to other shows of its kind, and how their theatrical training has helped them in the world of TV science fiction.

Mandy Albert teaches high school English and watches movies – mostly bad, occasionally good – in the psychedelic swamplands of South Florida.  She is especially fond of 1970s horror and high-sincerity, low-talent vanity projects.  You can listen to her and her husband talk about Star Trek: Enterprise on their podcast At Least There’s a Dog
