Essentia Health Holds Flag Raising Ceremony to Honor Organ Donors as Part of National Donate Life Month

Essentia raised a flag to honor those who gave others a second chance at life in the Northland with organ, tissue and eye donations.

DULUTH, Minn. – On Monday, Essentia Health held a ceremony to honor organ donors as April is recognized as National Donate Life month.

Essentia raised a flag to honor those who gave others a second chance at life in the Northland with organ, tissue and eye donations.

For the families of both the donors and recipients, along with the medical staff, taking time to recognize the significance of these donations honors those who are no longer with us.

“Here at Essentia, just in the past year, we’ve had 13 people that have been able to donate organs and that has saved 33 people’s lives and that alone is amazing,” Dr. Chirstina Bastin de Jong, section chair of critical care medicine at Essentia said.

Essentia says that there’s always a list of patients here locally and nationally who are waiting for the life-saving gift of an organ donation. You can register to become an organ donor at the DMV or by visiting the organ donor website.
