Watch Jerry Seinfeld Perform Vintage Material on 'Late Show With David Letterman'

It was 1982 all over again when Jerry Seinfeld stopped by The Late Show With David Letterman on Friday night and launched into a stand-up routine that might have sounded a little… well, familiar. That’s because it was the same routine that the comedian performed the very first time he appeared on a Letterman-hosted late night show, Late Night With David Letterman.

Kicking off with jokes about weathermen — material that must have meant a lot to the host, as he got his start in television as a local weather guy — Seinfeld segued into his typically wry observational commentary about such everyday subjects as contact lenses and weight loss. Seinfeld didn’t clue the audience into the vintage nature of the material, and, in fact, what’s so funny about the bit is that it doesn’t sound at all dated. He could easily have written these jokes three days ago, as opposed to three decades ago. Maybe the next time he decides to revisit old punchlines, he should drop a few references to Wham! and Fast Times at Ridgemont High into the set-up so everyone’s in the know.

Late Show With David Letterman airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
