Frontier Homestead State Park welcomes archeologists young and old along with their families to its annual Utah Archaeology and Preservation Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in activities involving Native American games, history, traditional crafts and skills, and visit with a variety of demonstrators. Boy Scouts who participate in the event can receive their Indian Lore merit badge. Cost is $1.50 per person or $5 per family.

Archeology Day is the kick-off for a series of activities sponsored by Frontier Homestead State Park, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, Project Archeology and Southern Utah University.

On May 4 from 6 to 8 pm, free tours of the SUU Archaeological Repository in the Electronic Learning Center will be offered.

Samantha Kirkley, Utah State Coordinator for Project Archeology said the event is an opportunity to learn about the history of Cedar City.

“The Archaeology Day event at Frontier Homestead, combined with the SUU repository tour is a great way for all ages to learn about past and present cultures, in an educational and entertaining way,” she said.
