Fired police officer sentenced for driving drunk with child in car

OTTAWA COUNTY, MI -- A former Fruitport Township police officer who was fired after his arrest for drunken driving with his infant son in his vehicle has been sentenced to a year's probation.

Ottawa County 58th District Judge Kenneth Post imposed the sentence Tuesday, April 14, on Timothy Michael Thompson, 36, of Norton Shores, according to court records. The Hudsonville judge also sentenced Thompson to 180 days in jail to be served at the court's discretion if Thompson fails to observe the terms of his probation.

Post also levied fines, fees and costs of $1,210, which were paid in full, court records show.

Thompson pleaded guilty as charged March 24 to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with an occupant in the vehicle younger than 16, a misdemeanor.

The infraction was committed last November in Ottawa County's Polkton Township and was investigated by the county sheriff's office, court records show.
