Indictment: Redstone Township officer lied about slugging suspect
A Pennsylvania police officer has been indicted on charges he deprived a suspect's civil rights by slugging the man in the face and lying in an attempt to justify his actions.A federal grand jury returned the indictment Wednesday against former Redstone Township Officer Norman Howard.    The 42-year-old is free pending a May 5 court appearance. He remains with another police department. His lawyer didn't immediately return a message.    The indictment says Howard punched a man in his custody and claimed the man shoved him to create false justification for his "unreasonable use of force."    Howard resigned from Redstone Township after he was charged last fall in an apparent domestic dispute. A judge dismissed the charges.    He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted in the federal case.
