Exploring Jezebel’s Family Tree: Baal & The Queen of Heaven, Part I
If you’re familiar with this blog, then you know that I have a host of posts on the Jezebel spirit. And if you didn’t know before, you do now. *smile* But what about the spirits in cahoots with Jezebel? We know demons and principalities don’t have actual family groupings so to speak. But they do have hierarchies. So what does the sub-hierarchy of Jezebel’s fallen family look like?
In this series, we’ll discuss Jezebel’s parents, multiple personalities, siblings, children, and buddies. Because if you find one of these spirits, chances are, you’re bound to find some of their buddies present. After all, it was Jesus who said:
“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.” (Matthew 12:43-45)
So without further ado, let’s examine this “demon hit list”!

Now I won’t spend a lot of time relaying the physical manifestation of these two spirits since I already broke it WAY down in this post, but I’ll do a quick summary.
Cush is the grandson of Noah through Ham. Cush married Semiramis. Cush and Semiramis’ youngest and favourite son was Nimrod. Yes, the same “nimrod” who built the arrogant Tower of Babel. And that is where this spirit of Baal, the Queen of Heaven, Perversion, Religion, and Jezebel were birthed. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
At some point, in the ultimate act of arrogance, Cush, and Nimrod, and Semiramis, declared themselves gods. (Enter Religion.) Cush is said to have been Baal himself or El, Baal’s father. Nimrod became Baal (as well or instead of his father, see next paragraph), and Semiramis became Ashtoreth a.k.a. the Queen of Heaven.
Eventually, Cush was disgraced and his wife left him for her own son. GROSS. (Enter perversion.) Eventually, Shem, Nimrod’s great-uncle, a righteous man of God, slew his so-called immortal nephew to prove that he was not, in fact, immortal. And much like we see later in the Book of Judges, Shem sliced and diced Nimrod and sent his body to all the peoples to provoke them to righteous indignation and to sway them from their false worship. After this righteous slaying, Semiramis, perhaps in an act of desperation to remain queen, conveniently comes pregnant and gives birth to her son, Tammuz, who is said to be conceived divinely by Nimrod-Baal, and is Baal Reborn, the son of god.
This story has been “immortalized in Egyptian mythology, produce by Ham’s son, Egypt (Mizraim), Cush’s brother. It goes a little something like this. The god Set (Shem) unjustly slays Osiris (Nimrod) and slices him up, scattering his body parts across the face of the earth. Osiris’ loving, mourning wife, Isis (Semiramis), finds all the pieces, save one, and joins them together with a magical, golden phallus (the missing member’s replacement) and resurrects her love just long enough to conceive a child with him: Horus (Tammuz, see Ezekiel 8:14).
Juanita Bynum does an excellent teaching on this family tree, literal and physical, which I have shared here. But basically, she shows us that what has been born in the spirit must also be made manifest in the flesh. Jesus was indeed the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world, yet He still had to come to earth, born of a Virgin, live sinless, die a physical death on the cross, and rise on the third day for our redemption. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. Satan’s prayer is the same except he desires that his will be done on earth in place of the Father’s. So now we’ve seen the physical (and mythological) model of this patriarch and matriarch, let’s go to the spirit realm.
Baal, the Father "God"
Baal is the Ruler of Demons (Matthew 12:24, Mark 3:22, Luke 11:15). Some think that he is Satan, but I do not agree with that assessment. As ruthless as these guys were, why would they not call Jesus Satan if they truly meant to? They obviously had no problem blaspheming the Holy Spirit of God in Him.
In the Old Testament, Baal was a frequent mention.
So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, and the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel. (Numbers 25:3)
Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal Peor; for the Lord your God has destroyed from among you all the men who followed Baal of Peor. (Deuteronomy 4:3)
Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the Baals; and they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; and they followed other gods from among the gods of the people who were all around them, and they bowed down to them; and they provoked the Lord to anger. They forsook the Lord and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. (Judges 2:11-13)
Then they cried out to the Lord, and said, ‘We have sinned, because we have forsaken the Lord and served the Baals and Ashtoreths; but now deliver us from the hand of our enemies, and we will serve You.’ (I Samuel 12:10)
One could easily say that Baal was the snare of the Saints of the Old Testament. He was also known as Bel (Akkadian, Scottish), Chemosh (Moabite), Moloch/Molech/Milcom (Ammonite), etc.. And behind every powerful “man,” is a strong “woman.”
A Wicked Union
Now obviously, we’re dealing with spirits and spirits neither marry nor are given in marriage (Matthew 22:30, Mark 12:25, Luke 20:35). But we are dealing with what, or rather who, I like to call Jezebel’s parents. The second to the last Scripture shared above shows these two spirits in conjunction, but let’s look at perhaps the most obvious story displaying the union between these two principalities and rulers of Hell under Satan.
In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king over Israel, and reigned twelve years. Six years he reigned in Tirzah. And he bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver; then he built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, Samaria, after the name of Shemer, owner of the hill. Omri did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and did worse than all who were before him. For he walked in all the ways of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin, provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their idols….So Omri rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria. Then Ahab his son reigned in his place.
In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri became king over Israel; and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years. Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him. And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. Then he set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. And Ahab made a wooden image. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him. In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its foundation with Abiram his firstborn, and with his youngest son Segub he set up its gates, according to the word of the Lord, which He had spoken through Joshua the son of Nun. (I Samuel 16:21-26, 28-34)
And [Elijah] answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and have followed the Baals. Now therefore, send and gather all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.”
So Ahab sent for all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together on Mount Carmel. And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word. Then Elijah said to the people, “I alone am left a prophet of the Lord; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men. Therefore let them give us two bulls; and let them choose one bull for themselves, cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it; and I will prepare the other bull, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it. Then you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the God who answers by fire, He is God.” (I Kings 18:18-24)
For a quick recap, we see that Omri, bought a hill--a high place--built the city of Samaria on it, and made it a city of pagan worship unto the Baals and Ashtoreths (represented by asherah poles). Then Omri, who was previously the most wicked king of all Israel, was succeeded by his son, Ahab, who not only topped his father’s record of wickedness, but sealed it by marrying the daughter of a pagan priest, EthBAAL, named JezeBEL, who herself was a priestess unto whom she worshipped as the king and queen of heaven. And thus, Ahab sealed the most base royal family of Israel in Biblical history.
In the last three listed paragraphs of Scripture, we can see various aspects of Baal and Ashtoreth worship:
Worship of Baal is in partnership with worship of Ashtoreth.
False prophet-priests are raised up to worship these two.
The sign of Baal is the bull and bull worship (including crescent horns).
Baal demands human sacrifice.
Baal is the false “consuming fire.”
Now contrast this to worship of the one, true God:
Worship of God encompasses the truth that the Lord our God is one: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; all one separate Persons, yet one. (Deuteronomy 6:4, Mark 12:29)
Prophets and a [royal] priesthood are raised up to worship Him. (Deuteronomy 18:18, I Peter 2:9)
God owns the cattle on a 1,000 hills and also demanded bulls as a sacrifices under the Law. (Psalm 50:10; Exodus 29:11-13, 29:1-3; Leviticus 4:3, Numbers 7)
God demands animal sacrifice under the Law, human living sacrifices in the fulfillment of the Law (under grace). (See last point; Romans 12:1, I Samuel 15:22)
God is the true consuming fire. (Deuteronomy 4:24, Hebrews 12:29)
Now we know how this story ended. Elijah, the spirit raised up to counter Jezebel, is backed by God Almighty, the True Consuming Fire, Who answers His servant by fire and consumes the sacrifice. All 850 false prophets of Baal (450) and Ashtoreth (400) and slain and the God of Israel is revered again. And we can deduce that this mountain, once holy unto Baal and his worshipers, was preserved as holy unto God to the Samaritans because in the Book of John we see an exchange between Jesus and a Samaritan woman who expresses the beliefs of her half-caste (half-Jewish, half-Sidonian) people.
The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” (John 4:19-20)
But no self-respecting Jew, of course, would worship at this place, no matter how their God displayed His power. It was still a pagan place of worship. And the worship of this God thrived in Israel in waves of rebellion and repentance, rebellion and repentance, rebellion and repentance time and time again.
