Emotional Support Animals: How More People Fly With Their Pets

Do you think you’ve been seeing a lot more animals at the airport recently? It’s not your imagination—it’s easier than ever for animals to ride on airplanes.

The Air Carrier Access Act states that “no carrier may discriminate against any otherwise qualified individual…who has a physical or mental impairment…” to board with animals.

While this law is meant to protect those with disabilities who need service animals, a popular new class of pets has emerged–called the emotional support animals.
