1--What is the title of your latest release?
DANGER ON THE ATLANTIC
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
Jane Wunderly and her handsome companion Redvers take a transatlantic cruise to uncover a German spy, and wind up embroiled in the disappearance from the ship of a wealthy socialite’s husband.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
When I started the series, I had a sort of mental list of fun places or things that were associated with the 1920’s, and a transatlantic cruise was one of them. It was a golden age for large ships like this, and it was fun to write as a setting.
4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Oh, absolutely. We would have a fantastic time laughing over a few cocktails. I’m a little sorry she’s not real, actually.
5--What are three words that describe your hero?
I’m so tempted to write tall, dark, and handsome, but I’m going to restrain myself. Instead, I’ll say Redvers is mysterious, smart, and compassionate.
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned that the ship I set this on—the Olympic—had actual Turkish baths on board for their guests. This blew my mind for some reason.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
When I start writing in the morning, I only tend to look over the last page or so to get jump-started. I like to write straight through the first draft and set it aside for a few months, and then come back to do editing. It gives me enough distance that I don’t feel as precious about cutting things or making changes.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Cheese. Does this count? I’m from Wisconsin.
9--Describe your writing space/office!
I actually love to write in coffee shops. I have a favorite that is about a 20-minute walk from my house and has a tall bar area to sit at looking out big windows. I love to hang out there and people watch while I write. So it’s my unofficial office.
10--Who is an author you admire?
Oh, this is a tough question because there are so many. I’ll say Sue Grafton. She’s not with us anymore, but I truly admired her so much. I started reading her in high school, and she made a large impact on me.
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
MURDER AT THE BRIGHTWELL by Ashley Weaver. When I read it, I was struck that I wanted to write something similar, and it inspired me to finally give it a try. Thus, MURDER AT THE MENA HOUSE, my first novel, came to be.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)
I was on a beach on Lake Michigan with one of my closest and oldest friends. There was a lot of shouting and jumping about and then a drink to celebrate.
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
Mysteries and crime fiction. Followed by romance and rom coms.
14--What’s your favorite movie?
Charade
15--What is your favorite season?
Fall! I love everything about fall—leaves and pumpkins and sweaters.
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I don’t actually do much—it’s not a big deal to me. I usually just have dinner with friends.
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Yellowjackets. It’s dark, but very well done.
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
One singular food is pizza, hands down. Cuisine would be Thai food.
19--What do you do when you have free time?
Read. Or do yoga.
20--What can readers expect from you next?
I’m working on Jane’s fourth adventure! She’s heading to Istanbul.
