Community benefits agreements poised to launch for Howe bridge project

With construction on the long-awaited Gordie Howe International Bridge scheduled to start next year, the public is invited to attend a meeting Wednesday to learn more about community benefits agreements and a coalition being formed.

With construction on the long-awaited Gordie Howe International Bridge scheduled to start next year, the public is invited to attend a meeting Wednesday to learn more about community benefits agreements and a coalition being formed.

Part of the upcoming bridge project includes a community benefits plan being formulated that is to include community partnerships, mitigation of construction, community safety, identifying potential economic benefits, plus providing feedback on preferred landscaping surrounding the project area.

The two-hour information session is being hosted by the United Way/Centraide of Windsor and Essex County. It will take place at Mackenzie Hall at 3277 Sandwich St. starting at 6 p.m.

The meeting is designed to kickoff the community consultation process involving the Howe bridge project.

United Way has invited Colette Murphy, executive director of the Atkinson Foundation and Alejandro Bravo, director of training and community leadership from the Broadbent Institute to attend the meeting and speak about negotiating community benefit agreements.
