Edinburgh Showcase 2015

The British Council’s biennial Edinburgh Showcase presents the very best of UK contemporary theatre and dance to international promoters. Watch our film with theatre critic and journalist Matt Trueman, as he takes us on a tour of the line-up of companies and their work on show at this year's Edinburgh Showcase. For more information about the productions in this year's programme please check out the dedicated Edinburgh Showcase website

From nearly 250 applications we selected a programme of 30 companies to showcase a snapshot of the diverse work currently being created in the UK. The main programme included devised, visual and physical theatre; new writing; live art and installation; interactive and immersive theatre; and dance theatre. The programme was presented to a delegation of visiting international programmers so that a new global audience can experience British performances.

This year we invited Tom Creed, freelance director and curator, and former Festival Director of Cork Midsummer Festival to join us as international guest curator for the Showcase.

In programming the Showcase, the British Council has been grateful for the expertise of our advisers: Alison Andrews, Andy Eagle, Anthony Roberts, Ben Twist, David Fry, Gillian Mitchell, James Tyson, Katie Keeler, Lorne Campbell, Lucy Mason, Matt Burman, Mike Griffiths, Paul Russ and Richard Kingdom.

In the months leading up to August, we asked the participating companies to share their stories on our blog. Join in the conversation and find out more about their experience of being in the Showcase by becoming part of our network. Follow us on Twitter at @UKTheatreDance and join the conversation on #EdShowcase.

"The Fringe Society is delighted that the British Council will once again organise a showcase of work at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2015. The showcase has a strong reputation for providing those who take part in it an unrivalled opportunity to get their work seen by promoters from all over the world. Enabling some of the most exciting new work from the United Kingdom to be seen by audiences in many different countries," says Kath M Mainland, CBE, Chief Executive, Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society. "As the world's largest arts festival and most significant arts market, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe remains the first choice for performers, producers and artists to capture the attention of audiences from both far away and closer to home."
