April was a busy month for Family Pathfinders. We celebrated Volunteer Appreciation Week by honoring all our amazing volunteers and highlighting the wonderful work of two in particular. Tanya Jones and Paul Baccus were named our 2014 Volunteers of the Year! Thank you to ALL our volunteers for empowering Tarrant County families all year round!

April was also Financial Literacy Month. We celebrated by co-hosting the annual Financial Fitness DFW fair in Tarrant County. A special thank you to Brittany Clark, representing Junior League of Fort Worth, for volunteering.

In addition to financial fitness we are moving towards better physical fitness. Family Pathfinders has joined the Blue Zones movement and is just the second small organization in Fort Worth to complete the Blue Zones checklist to become a Blue Zones friendly work-site! We will send out more information on how you can join us in working towards living longer, healthier lives.

Please remember to check out our upcoming events, valuable resources you can share with your mentees and clients, and the easy ways you can support Family Pathfinders today!

Volunteer Spotlight Volunteer
Family Pathfinders has always been blessed with a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers. Our Volunteer Appreciation party is a time we like to honor and thank all of them for the work they have done over the past year. This year we chose to highlight Tanya Jones and Paul Baccus as our 2014 Volunteers of the Year.

For three years, Tanya worked as a pre-release mentor helping clients set goals for successful reentry and self-sufficiency. Together, with former Mentoring Coordinator Jennifer Bellamy, they laid the ground work for the successful women's Second Chance mentoring program we have today.

Paul has been volunteering as a Financial Coach since 2013 and has completed the most volunteer hours of all our active volunteers. With his busy schedule of working and traveling, he has graciously agreed to be the designated coach for our first group of Lending Circles participants.

Thank you to all our volunteers for another successful year of empowering individuals and families to attain self-sufficiency!

Family Pathfinders is getting into the Blue Zone! The Blue Zones Project is a community well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to environment, policy, and social networks.  Blue Zone cities are found in only a hand full of countries in the world where people live measurably longer and healthier lives and Fort Worth is the only city in the south to initiate a project.

Family Pathfinders met with Blue Zones representative Kimberly Porter and took the Blue Zone pledge. We are committed to providing our staff with healthy opportunities, improved eating habits, natural movement and being socially connected. We are the second organization in Fort Worth to have completed our Blue Zone checklist and will become an official Blue Zones friendly work site.
Event SpotlightEvent

Family Pathfinders and the United Way of Tarrant County partnered up for Financial Fitness DFW in Tarrant County.

The annual event was free to the public and offered a wide verity of resources. Financial service providers offered attendees an opportunity to check their credit scores while partner agencies discussed affordable housing, Individual Development Accounts, debt management and various other steps individuals could take to reach financial freedom.

Family Pathfinders led a breakout session on our Lending Circles program and registered individuals for Financial Coaching sessions at Tarrant County College.
