When you shake strong coffee with simple syrup, whiskey, and heavy cream, something magic happens. It's called Irish iced coffee: A creamy, heavily caffeinated concoction that will wake up you and your taste buds. While you can certainly serve this boozy brunch favorite over regular ice, we're big fans of freezing coffee (or better yet, cold brew) in ice cube trays ahead of time and using the coffee cubes as your ice instead. When they melt, your cocktail doesn't get watery—it just gets stronger. For a deliciously indulgent topping, add a dollop of homemade whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces strong coffee, chilled

  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup

  • 1 ½ ounces Irish whiskey

  • 1 ounce heavy cream

Directions

  1. Combine coffee, simple syrup, whiskey, and cream in an ice-filled cocktail shaker.

  2. Shake vigorously until very cold, about 30 seconds, and then strain into an ice-filled pint glass and top with whipped cream (if desired).
