Deputy Head of Facilities Management

Job Introduction

HMP Northumberland are recruiting for a Deputy Head of FM (Hard Services). Reporting to the Head of Facilities Management, the post holder will assist and deputies’ in the absence of Head of FM the day to day operational delivery of Hard and Soft Services through in-house teams and specialist contractors.  To be successful in this role, you must have a strong technical background, with excellent admin skills.

Previous substantial experience within a similar hard services role and delivery of both asset management and lifecycle is desirable

This includes various educational and vocational qualifications, as well as a variety of opportunities for residents to learn new skills within our workshops and industries departments. We have textile, engineering and electrical workshops and can offer prisoners experience in horticulture, market gardens, cleaning, waste management and laundry services on site.

Being over 4 miles in circumference, the prison is a vast space with exceptionally kept plantation and currently houses over 1300 residents with a range of sentence terms.

Role Responsibility

  • Ensure safe working practices are implemented and take corrective actions where required.
  • Report unsafe practices or conditions.
  • Take an active interest in staff welfare, engagement,and development.
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in the rehabilitative aims of the Prison.
  • Conduct a quality check of 10% of works undertaken by the team each month, implementing corrective actions as necessary and recognising successes.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Have experience of successfully managing people and services in a Total Facilities Management delivery model.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills
  • BIFM Level 4 qualification or equivalent
  • A progressive, dynamic,and flexible approach to delivery of Maintenance Services
  • A proven track record of customer relationship, quality, project,and financial Management
  • Trained in Health and Safety to IOSH Level II standard and have extensive knowledge of method statements, risk assessments, safe systems of work, building, electrical and mechanical regulations
