Already planning your meals in advance every week? Keeping the nonperishable ingredients for each meal together in a storage container — you’ll not only have everything ready to go when it’s time to cook, you can also quickly identify any missing items you may need to pick up.
This suggestion comes from Better Homes and Gardens as a way to keep your pantry organised. If your plans incorporate new recipes, print out the recipe and include that in the storage bin as well. Once you’ve “assembled” all your meals you can easily make a shopping list for anything you don’t have on hand. When the time comes to make dinner all you need to do is pull out the container, gather any fresh or frozen items and start cooking.
This method won’t work for everyone: it takes up more space, and if you regularly use staple ingredients rather than canned and packaged goods the sorting effort may not be worth it.
