Jessica Mulroney: ‘We finally know the a–holes who we thought were our friends’

For a few months now, Jessica Mulroney has been back to posting on her social media with some regularity. She took some “time off” and she stepped back from her Instagram in the immediate wake of her racism and threats against Sasha Exeter. Considering Jessica and Ben Mulroney are moneyed elites and high-ranking members of the Toronto social scene, we all knew that Jessica Mulroney was not “over,” and we knew that she would come back. But what I didn’t expect was for her reemergence to be so messy? Jessica has genuinely used the Duchess of Sussex as a prop and a deflection shield on Instagram, and whenever Jessica gets called out for it, she’ll delete the IG or complain (without any irony) about how SHE is being bullied. She also claimed, about a month ago, that Meghan had been checking up on her “every day.” Hm.

So, anyway, Jessica posted the above IG on Friday – a photo where she’s kissing her husband Ben, who had to step down from one of his jobs because of his wife’s racist catastrophe. This was her message:

After a few rough months, something to FINALLY celebrate. ❤️ Thank you for being by my side Benny. We’ve learnt so much. Thank you to our true friends for sticking by us. We could have never made it without you. Silver lining: we finally know the a**holes who we thought were our friends . Best gift we could have ever been given. Pardon my Manners ❤️

[From Jessica’s IG]

I saw at least one royal reporter suggest that perhaps Meghan was one of those “a–holes.” I feel pretty certain that Meghan is not who Jessica is referring to. I feel pretty certain that Jessica is referring to people who were rightly appalled by her actions and words to Sasha Exeter, and then further appalled by her tone-deaf responses in the wake of it. Oh, and it’s not like it was Ben and Jessica’s wedding anniversary or anything. She was just being purposefully vague about having something “to FINALLY celebrate” because the whole reason for the post was to draw attention to herself and the fact that she’s being persecuted by a–holes. Umhm.

Not enough water in the world to quench that thirst.

All I have, other than that, is she needs to lay off the spray tan, and man, he looks like his father!

    • Snazzy says:

He really does look like his dad, doesn’t he?

      • M says:

She actually looks like a caricature drawing of a person, doesn’t she? Like with the fillers and such it’s all so disproportionate.

    • Züri says:

100% on all of these comments. @M: I never noticed it, but she really does look like a caricature drawing with all the fillers.

      • elle says:

@M… yes! In that blue pantsuit photo, it looks like a face photoshopped onto another body without being scaled to fit.

  2. MaryContrary says:

I really like Meghan, but her picker with this particular BFF seems WAY off.

    • CC says:

I guess i agree, but i think sometimes we need to take a step back from celeb watching and realise that they’re real people. They have good and bad qualities, and they’re not cartoonish villians or protagonists. They’re likeable in certain ways, unbearable in others.

I think Jessica is a great friend for Meghan and vice versa, and I think the past couple of years has been an opportunity for Meghan to ‘test’ her friendships, so to speak. This doesn’t mean that she will always ride or die for Jessica, but i can’t imagine her dropping Jessica over this drama at all.

Especially when you look at everything in its entirety. Sasha and Jessica apparently already had beef. Jessica started bitching after that BLM post. Sasha allowed Mugxits to flood her comments and didn’t defend Meghan, because she knew that they hate Jessica (and a smart woc would know that they’re not on her side because of BLM, they’re on her side because they gleefully knew that Jessica and Meghan’s reps are affected).

Meghan probably see that the feud wasn’t genuinely just about race and checked her quietly for her white privilege+gave private support. I’m sure she side eyed Jessica for her dumb comments but made that clear, while side eyeing Sasha at the same time because it’s clear their tensions exceed beyond what we saw (imo).

      • MaryContrary says:

I don’t mean just this-although even with a giant grain of salt, Jessica looks terrible. Jessica just seems like such a tacky, famewhore and stories of her snooty ways abound in Toronto-how Meghan overlooked all of that is kind of surprising to me.

      • Nic919 says:

Where did the previous beef with Sasha come up? Jessica threatened a lawsuit and attacked her career and basically nothing justifies that. I am not blaming Meghan for having been friends with Jessica at one point, but Jessica is 200% racist and in the wrong here. If there was anything that could justify Jessica just attacking and making threats like that she would have made it public by now. She had nothing.

    • Laura says:

Jessica looks like a creepy copy of Meghan. If I were Meghan I would stay far, far away. Jessica needed to stay low for at least 6 months after what she did and then come back with some gentle posts about realising this or that and apologising — not lashing out against ‘assholes’ when she is the biggest asshole in the whole story. She just reminds us all of what an a-hole she is. This chick gives me the shivers.

  3. Sofia says:

Yeah I don’t think it’s Meghan either. It’s definitely people who were rightly appalled at how she treated Sasha. Or people who never really liked her in the first place and needed a genuine reason to dump her ass.

But girl. Shut up. Please shut up. She needs to take another few months off.

    • Still_Sarah says:

@ Sofia : It’s amazing how she talks about this “terrible time” as if she had no role to play in it! Like she accidentally stepped in dog poop. Ewwwww, look what happened to me! It wasn’t my fault at all!

  4. OSTONE says:

If I have to guess, they believe Lainey is one of those as*holes since she wrote that op-Ed when it happened.

    • Monette says:

That was my first thought, too.

    • Myra says:

That was my first thought too, that she was referring to Lainey here. Jessica is like the opposite of Harry. Harry made mistakes went on a journey of growth and tried to be better afterwards. Jessica on the other hand doesn’t seem to be learning anything from hers. Just try some humility. Take a real break from social media. Go do some volunteering. Go on a Eat, Pray, Love journey, I don’t know.

      • Still_Sarah says:

@ Myra : She’s part of the moneyed elite who has been able to wave her “special” status at people since the day she was born. I don’t believe she will change because she sees no reason to change. And she would probably just pose in a bikini and duck lips while holding a glass of wine and overlooking the ocean on her eat-pray-love journey, so I think that cancels any good that might come from it.

      • Myra says:

I lol-ed at the imagery. You’re right though which is such a shame. She could learn from many others but she chooses the self pity route.

    • Nic919 says:

It probably is Lainey although I don’t think they were ever close friends. Lainey is close with Marcy Ien who is Sasha’s aunt and who is now running for the Liberals in a by election in Toronto Centre.

Jessica needs to get over her self. The entitlement is non stop and she is no different than the whiny Trumps. I.e. a rich spoiled brat who never had to work and cannot deal with being told they did something wrong.

    • Ripper says:

It’s possible she is referring to Lainey. However, I have heard that she had actual friends completely write her and Ben off. Lainey and Jessica/Ben roll in very different circles, socially.

  5. equality says:

She still hasn’t learned to play nice. I’m sure some dumped her because it was politically expedient but some of those people may have considered her an untrue friend for her attitude and actions. If she tried to privately make amends with others instead of slinging insults on social media her life might improve.

    • Still_Sarah says:

@ equality : Many years ago, I worked as a part-time bank teller in a wealthy established neighbourhood in Toronto. A customer came in and told a teller that her toddler only wore clothes from Paris. An older woman in the line just kind of laughed at the comment and told me that in her Palm Springs vacation enclave, the rich people “wore faded jeans and drove old Volvos” – meaning that really rich people from old money families know not to flaunt their wealth as this is considered to be in bad taste. Jessica is a show-off and probably didn’t take her crisis managers advise to stay the hell offline. The girl will never learn from her mistakes.

      • holly hobby says:

That is so true. A parent in my school came from old money and you would never know because she drives an old mercedes. I mean it is not the sleek design of a few years. It was old, old. They don’t flaunt it. The only clue we got was when we held our annual dinner auction, they poured the money on.

      • Gorgonia says:

I’m from Italy and I live in Genoa: in my town people say “the money is where you don’t see it”. The people from old money families drive old cars and don’t give a damn about fashion. They never show off their wealth.

      • Rosalee says:

At my former workplace our biggest donors were rather low key. They lived well not extravagant, I was always overwhelmed by their kindness and generosity. They requested their names not be added to our donor board. However, the ones who donated modestly wanted their names attached and when they ran for public office would have us listed in their campaign materials…

      • Andrea says:

Years ago I worked at a TD Canada Trust in Downtown Toronto and it was an education in and of itself. Anyone coming in acting like they owned the joint had tons of money, actually had none. Also the amount of debt people carry was astonishing.

  6. Sara says:

Is there a Real Housewives of Toronto series? Is Jessica on it? She looks and acts like she should be on it.
The false lashes in the IG pic are something.

    • Lizzie says:

      Younger Kyle Richards vibe.

      • Sara says:

Omg, yes! You hit the nail on the head with that comparison. Way too much makeup and work for someone so young. Sad.

    • Rachel says:

A few years ago there was a RHOT but only lasted one season. I’m not sure if it aired anywhere besides Canada. 🙂

    • Redgrl says:

There was but it only lasted one season. They were an odd bunch – lots of bad plastic surgery and constant nattering about the Muskokas. Vancouver lasted for a few seasons & at least the outdoor scenery was nice.

  7. Julia K. says:

Would like to see Meghan respond with a brief word of support. She doesn’t need to approve of her friends behavior.

    • Rebecca says:

Black women and WoC do not need to be the “get out of racism” card for their white friends who f–k up.

  8. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

    I still can’t believe she’s a stylist.

    • Giddy says:

      Exactly what I was thinking!

    • Nanny to the Rescue says:

Came here to say that! 😀

    • GuestWho says:

I came here to say that too! She always looks ridiculous. Who is taking advice from her on what to wear?!

    • Ripper says:

Her style is very French Canadian. A bit over the top, matchy matchy, somewhat tacky and over processed.

      • Tigerlily says:

@Ripper I don’t know about her style being ‘French Canadian’(umm probably not) but while Jessica is from Montreal Quebec she is NOT French Canadian. Her maiden name is Brownstein, her mother’s maiden name is Coleman.

      • Redgrl says:

@ripper – excuse me no. Having previously lived for decades in Montreal, francophone women (and men) are among the best dressed in the world hands down.

    • Grey says:

Okay, but there is one suit that she has been photographed in that I would do some bad things for… its the red and blue plaid one and I just love it. I googled it one time and it was like 1400 dollars, so I will just admire it in photos.. sigh.

  9. CoKatie says:

She’s a stylist?! I’m just basing my opinion on the photos of her in this article. Yikes! That is some really bad taste.

I have a funny feeling that Meghan has bowed out of her relationship with this woman. I wouldn’t blame her since I would do the same. There is absolutely no upside for Meghan in this relationship VS Jessica’s thirsty needs. I would hazard to guess that it is a polite acquaintance relationship at this point. And that’s the smart way to do it.

  10. Golly Gee says:

So clearly she has learned nothing. Maybe this is her way of issuing veiled threats at her now perceived enemies. Instead of looking inward, she’s looking for someone to blame, because she’s not a bully, she’s a victim. /s

  11. Monette says:

Why is it that whenever I see an instragram photo of a hetero couple, I get the same yucky feeling? The HE has wrikles and facial hair and discolorations of skin and lines and looks human. The SHE is smooth as s***, no wrinkles, no hair lines, perfect skin, fake eye lashes, fake eye colour, fake lips, FAKE SMOOTH EVERYTHING.
Why is the female normal Plastic and the male normal just normal?!?
And why is it that we are the only animals where the female has to do THIS (the many plastic monstrosities Jessica has done to her face) to atract and keep a mate?!?

    • ClaireB says:

I hate to be shallow and criticize women’s appearances, but I don’t understand why all these wealthy women want to look like cheap blow-up dolls. Her face is terrifyingly inhuman and those fake lashes look like fuzzy caterpillars. How is this a thing? She looks like she belongs in the Capitol in Hunger Games.

      • HeyJude says:

If you look at the picture of them in the white toques here that’s her pre-facial enhancements, she was so pretty as is.

    • ItReallyIsYou,NotMe k8 says:

We live near a park with peacocks and it always strikes me when I watch them that a lot of animal species require the male to attract the female mate. Wish it was that way for humans too.

  12. Becks1 says:

I am also surprised at how messy her re-entrance into social media has been. You would have thought she have met with some image consultants or something over the past few months to help her navigate that re-entry, but instead she’s posting about a-holes. That doesn’t help counteract the image of her as a racist bully, etc.

in terms of who did drop her -my guess is that she is referring to people who don’t want to be part of her PR crisis. I don’t think its anyone who thought “wow, I thought you were this fabulous person, turns out you’re a racist bully, I had no idea.” Because it sounds like at least the bullying part was pretty well known in Toronto? so I think its people who are just like, “its not good for me to be associated with you right now.”

    • Sofia says:

From what people on here have said (some who are from Toronto according to themselves), Jessica was widely disliked by Toronto Society long before the Sasha stuff happened. Then it happened and it gave a lot of them, not just an excuse to ditch her, but a “respectable” one that makes them look good too.

  13. mynameispearl says:

She thinks she hasnt done anything wrong, clearly she didnt do any self reflection during her short hiatus.

How does she not realise that SHE is the asshole, so entitled.

On another note its baffling that she is a stylist, she looks like a mid 2000s British WAG. Shades of Cheryl Cole and Victoria Beckham at Baden Baden in 2006.

    • Lady D says:

I had to look this incident up. I was afraid that the Spice Girls had performed in the camp. Glad to find out I was wrong, but it sounds like they made quite the spectacle of themselves. They seem to remember the wives and girlfriends more than the results of the World Cup game.

    • MuttonChop says:

I was thinking the same thing! This look is totally what would’ve been an early 2000s WAG glow up.

  14. Nev says:

    Sit down trick.

  15. S808 says:

She’s messy but I’m sure she’s talking about Lainey. As far as her relationship with Meghan goes, the trash may take itself out. They’re on different continents and Meghan is a new mom and operating in completely new sphere with about a billion things going on. I wouldn’t be surprised if they grow apart.

    • Brandy Alexander says:

      “they’re on different continents”

Ummmm…… No. No, they are not. Different countries, different sides of the same continent, but still the same continent.

      • S808 says:

lmaooo you’re right idk why I thought Jessica was in the UK for a second there

      • Brandy Alexander says:

LOL. I’m glad you weren’t offended by that. I was hesitant to post it, but people thinking Canada is a different continent is a pet peeve of mine. I’m glad to know you at least thought she was in the UK when you wrote that.

  16. Mignionette says:

It’s interesting bc at the time that come-up influencer (sorry not gonna name her) skewered jessica, there was talk that Jessica was already compiling names of people she would get back at.

Some of Jessica’s adversaries reached out to come-up influencer privately for this very reason. So the theory was right.

I think Jessica is pretty much finished. Now Ben needs to insulate himself so he doesn’t suffer a similar fate.

Personally I feel all the actors in this story were trash. They all deserve to fade into irrelevance.

    • mynameispearl says:

Sasha Exeter has handled this whole situation with class, plus she was brave standing against this woman who seemingly is very influential in Canadian society.

Why do you think she should have rolled over and took it? This Jessica woman was a total dick to her.

      • Nic919 says:

The worst Sasha did was not remove some of the anti Meghan comments in IG when the story first broke, but beyond that she was in the right for calling out Jessica publicly for her threats, which came out of nowhere. I can’t both sides this one when one side is an entitled rich girl who has bullied and got called out.

    • Lady D says:

What did Sasha do to deserve such scorn?

      • Mignionette says:

Come-up influencer very openly used the episode for the come-up. Her beef was with Jessica but she actively encouraged some vicious comments against Meghan on her page. She actually answered comments that skewered Meghan with ‘I know right’ and complained that Meghan had not reached out to her.

Come-up influence gained over 100k followers within a week and a blue tick complaining that Jessica had not actively championed BLM. However when you review her account, she had kept BLM within her insta stories only to protect her aesthetic.

The whole episode was a flaming mess.

      • CC says:

@mig, you’re right. She used the drama for clout and included Meghan in it because she knew that’s the weak spot. People will pay attention and flame Jessica if they know who she’s linked to. Otherwise nobody would care.

I think publicly calling out Jessica was fair if Jessica was threatening her behind the scenes, which happened. But I think keeping quiet when mugzit accounts gave her fake support and not deleting the Meghan comments was a snake move on her part. For that reason, i genuinely don’t care about this drama.

      • Mignionette says:

@cc she didn’t just keep quiet, she actively fanned the flames of the Mugzits and gained a ton of mugzit followers.

She ripped her moves straight out of the influencer play book. Attacking a well known influencer is a well known strategy for smaller influencers to gain notoriety and clout. It’s the infuencer equivalent to gaining your ‘prison bitch’ stripes.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

What CC said. I couldn’t get past the way she didn’t discourage the hate from certain people against Meghan in her comment section. To me, if you are calling out bullying directed at you, you don’t entertain bullies directed at a woman who did nothing to you and then expecting said woman to jump to your defense. Yeah, I checked out of that situation when I realized she was perfectly willing to see bullying directed at another woman.

  17. Giddy says:

I guess she couldn’t thank her husband at home in a quiet moment. Maybe she never has quiet moments.

    • Mumbles says:

It reminds me how Warren Beatty sarcastically commenting in “Truth or Dare” about Madonna: “ She doesn’t want to live off-camera, much less talk. There’s nothing to say off-camera. Why would you say something if it’s off-camera? What point is there existing?” Ole Warren was predicting influencers.

It’s not enough for fameballs like these two to be incredibly wealthy or privileged. They need to be *famous* and *seen.* Even though they’re devoid of talent.

It would speak well of Meghan if this person was out of her life. Especially if her cause is eliminating online toxicity. This woman basically called someone an asshole online. (We don’t know who, but that person probably does.)

  18. Lizzie says:

I don’t like this lady and I’m glad what she did was made public. Totally off topic, there is not one picture of her which I would take a second glance. She is average looking, which is fine and way ahead of me most days, and her clothes are designed to draw attention and bordering on costumes, but are not great.

  19. Tiffany says:

She strikes me as someone who thinks she has friends but really don’t.

That circle is somewhat small so when you are the same people, seeing each other at the same events or luncheon, you would get that impression.

The fact that her phone isn’t blowing up at this point for that reason is why she is acting like this.

    She truly is clueless.

  20. Sunday says:

    …it’s you, Jessica.

  21. Cava24 says:

Jessica Mulroney is fully aware that no one knows or cares who any of her friends are besides Meghan Markle. So even if she doesn’t mean MM, she gets a bunch of press over this. Which makes her a really shitty friend. Because Jessica’s friends should be encouraging her to evolve, not giving her cover for not examining her own life and actions.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

This was my first thought. She knows that there will now be speculation wondering if Meghan is one of the friends she’s talking about. Apparently the BM has already gone down that path and it will only get worse and Meghan will have slings coming at her once again over something she had no part in.

  22. Ariel says:

It is still all about HER. What a narcissist.
SHE is being bullied. And people have been mean to HER.
For no reason!- oh wait, there was a reason, also based in her narcissistic worldview that everything, including a black woman’s blanket statement about society, was specifically about HER.
The privilege and the utter tone deaf idiocy are astounding with this girl.

  23. paranormalgirl says:

She’s being persecuted by her heavy handed highlighter use. Put down the brush and step away from the Hourglass palette.

  24. Jules says:

Most Awkward and Posed Kiss ever.

  25. My3cents says:

You know who else is not your friend?
    Style and and self tanners.

  26. CV says:

For a self-proclaimed “stylist” she dresses like absolute garbage.

  27. MsIam says:

Isn’t she starting a company designing flower girl dresses? This probably part of her PR ramp up. Is the company called “Designs by Me-Me”?

  28. Jodi says:

This woman is a walking talking example of white privilege and her complete inability to see what she did and how what she did was problematic. it’s pitiful. in every way she has mishandled this “mea culpa” that actually doesn’t exist whatsoever. Way to take a learning moment and botch it all completely.

  29. Mary S says:

It looks like her head was photoshopped onto her body in the photo where she’s wearing the bright blue suit.

  30. Redgrl says:

Well if they are still in touch, Meghan needs to look long and hard about who her real friends are. Jessica Mulroney has always been known as an entitled mean girl. If this friendship continues then side eye to her for that.

  31. Jaded says:

She’s not well-liked in Toronto “high society”. She’s far too brazen and self-aggrandizing. The Toronto “400” are not obvious, they live their lives of quiet elegance and stay out of the spotlight. She hogs it like the famewhore she truly is.

    • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

Yes, and I don’t understand it- hasn’t her family already been established for several generations?

      She is irretrievably vulgar.

  32. BnLurkN4eva says:

This is the problem with some on the progressive liberal side. They truly believe because of some of their progressive, liberal stance that they are not racist even while doing racist things. This makes it difficult to accept correction because your opinion of yourself is that I believe this, this and this, which means I am progressive and therefore can’t be racist. She has seemed to not understand what she did and because she doesn’t understand it, she can’t really improve so keeps digging in. She’ll be find though for all the reasons she thought she could do what she did in the first place and that’s part of the problem with our world.

    • Lizzie says:

I don’t know much about this lady but a quick google search did not indicate either progressive or liberal. Can you point me where to find this information?

      • Jaded says:

I think Ben is staunchly conservative and his sister Caroline is Ontario Minister of Transportation and Minister of Francophone Affairs for the Conservative party so I think it’s safe to say that Jessica is conservative as well.

    • Redgrl says:

Yeah she’s hardly progressive or liberal and neither is her husband or his insidious family…

  33. Flying Fish says:

    Go away, Jessica, please.

  34. L4frimaire says:

I’m so glad the border between the US and Canada continues to be closed. She is so messy and addicted to drama. If she wanted to just come back into the scene, she could without still trying to settle scores, but she won’t because she wants people to talk about her and play vicious guessing games. Wonder what brought this latest stunt on.

    • Jaded says:

If you mean she’s American and living in America, she’s Canadian and they live in Toronto so the border closure has nothing to do with keeping her out of Canada…unfortunately.

  35. Valerie says:

Ugh, she’s just been like, so betrayed!

    Immature brat.

  36. Snap Happy says:

I was watching the David Foster Documentary. They interview Ben’s dad, the former PM. At Ben’s sister’s wedding he introduced David Foster to Michael Buble. Jessica is going to be fine. Her contacts are deep. Sasha took a big chance by revealing her story.

Her return to SM has been gross. She still lecturing to people and talking about, “women helping women.” It’s ridiculous coming from her. I can’t believe she couldn’t stay off SM foe more than 2 months.

  37. Meg says:

    Again she’s a stylist huh? …. really?

  38. LRob says:

Jessica needs to start again with her messaging. I hope she can learn because in fact I appreciate the friends she and ben have been to meghan and harry, and i like their kids. there seems to be no space on sm for her curent take on things, and she needs to recognize that. but she has the right to use her talents and rebuild her brand, with more self awareness and in time.

  39. Sorella says:

Jessica and her husband are big fish in the Toronto pond – mainly due to his name and his Dad being our former Prime Minister. Plus Ben has been throwing around his weight for years (if you watch how he treated cohosts in the past..it is KILLING him to be extra nice now you can tell LOL). He lorded his name over everyone. And same for his wife. I think people were extra nice to her due to her connections but this revealed how she truly is. and they are are like “phew we can stop sucking up to her now!!”. Lainey did say this couple were talking names. She can’t be humble and say “I am sorry, I f’ed up and I need to be better”. She is so wrapped up in reclaiming her Toronto status without any clue why she lost it. By “friends” I think she means Toronto’s social scene (all the CTV gang Ben works with, the ladies on The Social who all sided with Sasha and Toronto socialites and high up people). Those people likely feel they can stop being EXTRA nice to her and that is who she is referring to as a**holes. She THINKS they were all her friends- they really were not . I think there was rejoycing in her downfall in Canada. The Toronto and Canada social scene and TV personalities is a SMALL group – she can’t come back from this and that terrifies her. Each story about her will be followed by this scandal story and no Canadian network will take her back. She KNOWS this and is desperate. What bad handling of her return to IG …she should look at MariePier Morin (a Quebec influencer) who had her own scandal this summer – she just came back to IG after months away and she did it right, people are forgiving her. Jessica has yet to eat humble pie. Plus those lips yikes!
