Shelby Miller throws complete game shutout in 9-0 Braves win

Shelby Miller put together a phenomenal start against the Phillies on Tuesday night as the Braves cruised to a 9-0 win.

On his 99th pitch of the game, Miller struck out Ryan Howard on a rising fastball to get Atlanta back to within one game of .500. Per ESPN Stats & Info, this was the first complete game shutout with under 100 pitches thrown in 2015. A Maddux, in other words.

Freddie Freeman put the Braves up 2-0 in the first inning with a line-drive shot to right field, scoring Andrelton Simmons. The Braves had no trouble with Phillies start Chad Billingsley, who's spent the last two years overcoming multiple injuries. The scoring continued in the 4th inning as Jonny Gomes plated a runner on a fielding error by Cody Asche. Kelly Johnson then hit his team-best sixth home run of the season, a no-doubt shot to right field to push the lead to 6-0.

Johnson came to the plate again with the bases loaded in the seventh inning and drew a walk. Jace Peterson singled home another run to make it 8-0, and Cameron Maybin, who's now hitting .355 in his last seven starts, lined a single to left to push the tally to 9-0.

Miller was in full command of his fastball and cutter, and the Phillies hitters never really had a chance. Miller struck out eight, walked just one batter and surrendered three hits -- two singles and a double to Howard. His ERA for the season is now down to 1.66.

The Braves and Phillies will wrap up their series tomorrow night at 7:10 ET. Mike Foltynewicz will be on the mound for his second start.
