McCormick Leads Improving Racers At OVC

The Murray State Men's golf team improved by five shots from round one to two Saturday when they carded a 4-over-par 292 at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship at the Shoals Golf Club in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
 
With the final round Sunday, the Racers are in seventh place with a 36-hole total of 297-292=589.
 
Duncan McCormick led the Racers with a 2-under-par 70 and had a two-day total of 146 after he improved six shots from his 76 in round one. McCormick was solid with 14 pars, three birdies and one bogey.
 
Brock Simmons and Jordan Smith joined McCormick with a share of 13th place in the field of 55 players. Simmons had rounds of 73-73 as did Smith.
 
Jared Gosser had a spot in 36th place after scores of 75-76=151. Preston French was in 50th place with rounds of 78-81=159.
 
The Racers trailed Belmont (585) by four shots and fifth place Jacksonville State (583) by six shots.
 
Eastern Kentucky overtook first day leader Belmont with an 8-under-par 280 and had a two-day total of 575 to lead Austin Peay (577) and Tennessee Tech (580). UT Martin was in fourth place at 581.
 
Morehead State (595) was in eighth place ahead of SIUE (606), Tennessee State (608) and Eastern Illinois (619).
 
The medalist lead was still very much up for grabs with 18 holes to play. Jacksonville State's Tomasz Anderson was at 6-under 138 tied with UT Martin's Brendan Caballero. Pablo Torres was two shots back at 140.
 
MSU will be paired with Morehead State and SIUE as they were in today's round two. The Racers' first tee time is Sunday morning at 8:50 a.m.
 
The Fighting Joe course at The Shoals is playing to a par-72 and a length of 7,258 yards.
