Whether our writing is primarily
a hobby, a ministry, a profession, “just a job,” or a combination of these four
things, we all face similar challenges. We’ve had moments when the words sang and moments when we wondered why we ever thought we could create one sentence
anyone would care to read. In her keynote address, Stephanie focuses on the idea that God
uses writers to share His living Word through story, not necessarily in

Workshop: Writing a Devotional for The Upper Room
Susan King is the Associate Editor of The Upper Room devotional magazine. She also teaches English at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, and functions as a seminar facilitator in leadership and group dynamics. Formerly, she taught English and feature-writing classes at Biola University, served as book editor and radio-program producer/on-air talent for The Institute of Scriptural Psychology, and wrote magazine features as a freelance writer.

Sally Jadlow teaches Creative Writing to adults and children. She also serves as a chaplain to corporations in the greater Kansas City area. Sally writes poetry, historical fiction, and inspirational short stories. Her first book, Sonflower Seeds, won Best Book of Poetry in 2002 at the Oklahoma Writers Federation. Her work has appeared in many Cup of Comfort books, Guidepost books, and literary journals such as Mid-America Poetry Review and Kansas City Voices Magazine.

Fiction Techniques in Non-Fiction Writing. Forty
years ago, a generation after our culture went through a shift from the written
word and radio to video, non-fiction authors began presenting their material
differently. They no longer just offered facts, but instead began writing in
scenes, using description, and peppering their work with dialogue. In this
workshop we will explore how to use fiction techniques to make your non-fiction
books feel more visual so they will appeal to the modern reader.
