Challenges We Faced in 2021: Jobsite Safety

Jobsite safety is a top priority for NAHB every year. But for the past nearly two years, the pandemic has added an extra layer of concern for home builders as they try to keep workers, visitors and clients safe on construction sites. The year began with a second COVID-19 Jobsite Safety Stand Down in early January as cases in the United States spiked over the winter in advance of widespread vaccine distribution. NAHB also led a broad coalition of construction industry groups encouraging vaccinations through COVID-19 Vaccine Awareness Week in Construction in April, which included an OSHA webinar for NAHB members that answered questions about the vaccines. In response to the toll the prolonged pandemic is taking on the world's collective mental health, NAHB focused heavily on its Member Mental Health and Wellbeing initiative. Early in the year, NAHB was awarded a grant to promote worker mental health and added more resources to its existing program with the help of valuable partners: NAHB also continued to focus on traditional jobsite safety with new video toolbox talks, free training resources for members to use on a wide range of safety issues: NAHB held free safety webinars for members on a variety of jobsite hazards, such as ladder safety and trenching. NAHB will continue to focus on the health and safety of workers on residential construction sites.
