by Pinkbike Staff
Angel Fire Resort has been awarded #1 Bike Park in the Southwest for the second year in a row by MTBParks.com, Angel Fire Bike Park is working to expand its trails for this upcoming season to over 100 miles and is launching a new Global Gravity Season Pass. Continuing to build on its reputation as one of the largest world-class mountain biking destinations in the country, Angel Fire Bike Park is continuing its efforts to ramp up their trails, offer special deals and clinics to those new to the sport and add more races and events to the summer calendar.

“Our goal has always been to create the most authentic trails for beginner and experienced riders to get excited about,” explains Hogan Koesis, bike park director, Angel Fire Resort. “Our equal mix of man-made versus natural trails on our mountain is what most people who come to check us out, compliment us on. This season we’re spending more time developing our cross- country trail network and adding mileage and improvements to our existing downhill network.”

NEW THIS SEASON
While the Angel Fire Bike Park has solidified its reputation with expert riders by hosting a series of races and events, including the 2013 Red Bull Dreamline event, the park’s goal this season is to engage more beginners and intermediates to the sport and expand its cross-country trail network throughout the town of Angel Fire and nearby National Forest. The park will also expand its new blue trail, Devinci’s Code, by two additional miles. Construction on Devinci’s Code started in the fall of 2014 and will be open to the public at the 5th annual Gravity Games and Bikes, Blues and Brews Festival, which happens over Labor Day weekend. The park plans on trail re-designs which will focus primarily on sustainable drainage, increased flow and most importantly smoothing out many of the existing trails in the park. These additions will now offer riders, of all abilities, over 100 miles of new and enhanced trails.

“It’s been key to grow our bike park at a rate in which we can develop outstanding new riding trails while still being focused on making sure our current trails are kept in great riding conditions. To be able to have grown our total trail mileage by over 100% in the past three summers and now to be able to offer our guests over 100 total miles of riding is something we’re really proud of,“ Koesis adds.

Angel Fire Bike Park is also launching a Global Gravity Season Pass. New this year, season pass holders from any bike park in the world can purchase a single day pass at Angel Fire Bike Park for half price. Additionally, the resort has invested in adding bike park carriers to the Chile Express chairlift for an easier and a no compromise experience transport up to the summit.

MORE THAN 100 MILES OF TRAIL RIDING

Angel Fire Bike Park

The 100-mile trail network does not include the great off-mountain trails in the village of Angel Fire and surrounding Kit Carson National Forest. Options off the mountain include the 23-mile South Boundary Trail, which begins just south of Angel Fire and ends in Taos, NM. The South Boundary Trail, deemed by many to be a “can’t miss” epic ride, features some of the best high-altitude singletrack anywhere in the United States. With New Mexico’s mountain bike trails expanding and in particular, northern New Mexico mountains featuring some of the best high-altitude riding in the world, this is giving many a reason to plan extended stays in Angel Fire to experience all the area offers for fat tire enthusiasts.

Hope they don't smooth too much stuff out. They already have awesome flow trails, but it's really nice to hit their gnarly dh trails every other run.

Last year it pissed me off how they smoothed out all the tricky sections on a lot of the blue trails. In my opinion they need a couple more gnarly steep Dh trail. They've created enough flow trails.

There's a reason they've quickly become one of the most popular parks in the nation. And it's because of their gnar. I hope they don't follow the same trend as everyone else by only focusing on the mellower trails.

I'm one of those intermediate riders who love the flow, and think it belongs on the blue trails. Living in NM, nearly every ride is filed with chunk and rocks. Angel fire blue trails is the best place I've found in NM where you don't have to be an expert to cary some speed and have fun. If steep and rock is your thing, check out when Pajarito is open.

AF is great. There is a little something for everyone. Wish they could get the braking bumps under control though.

Probably has a lot to do with the climate, much of the year its pretty dry making trail maintenance difficult, and all the beginners braking through berms.
