New Spectroradiometer Product Video
Schuyler Smith, of Apogee Instruments, introduces the main features of the new Apogee Instruments Spectroradiometer and software. Released in late 2016, the weatherproof 340 to 820 nm SS-110 and 635 to 1100 nm SS-120 are built for both lab use and long-term field deployment. For more information, visit apogeeinstruments.com/field-spectroradiometers/.
Apogee is pleased to share aquarium specialist Dana Riddle's review of the MQ-500 / MQ-510 Full-spectrum Quantum Meter and explanation of why reefkeepers should measure the light levels in their aquariums. In the review, Dana covers basic function of the meter, compares the new full-spectrum sensor to the Apogee's original quantum sensor, provides several LED light source tests, and more.

Did you know Apogee recalibrates sensors?
Apogee offers recalibration services for Apogee infrared radiometers, spectroradiometers, pyranometers, and quantum sensors, as well as, other companies' silicon pyranometers and quantum sensors, and black-body pyranometers. For maximum accuracy, we generally recommend sensors be recalibrate every two years, however, you may wish to recalibrate your sensors more or less frequently depending on your particular requirements. To help determine if recalibration is necessary for pyranometers and quantum sensors, visit the Clear Sky Calculator.

Controlling Flowering of Orchids in Greenhouse
Dr. Erik Runkle of Michigan State University used the SQ-313 line quantum sensor mounted on a cross bar in greenhouse experiments controlling the flowering of Phalaenopsis Orchids. In the experiment the SQ-313 was used to measure photosynthetic photon flux and the daily light integral at plant height for both natural and electric light sources, while temperature was experimented with to control flowering.
