1. What made you first decide to be an author?
I didn’t choose to be an author so much as writing chose me. I began to imagine the world depicted in The Creator’s Eye when I was only six years old. In fact, I went to sleep every night over the past twenty-eight years dreaming about, and It was something that I knew I would one day want to share.
2. What was your inspiration to write this book?
On the surface, The Creator’s Eye is an adventure story about the fuzzy grey line between good and evil, in particular, how my characters struggle with their sense of will, intuition, and fate when forced to walk that edge.
3. Where do you get your ideas?
As I’ve been writing this story for such a long time, almost everything has served as inspiration at some point, including movies I watched as a kid, books I read as a teenager, my painting practice, the year I practiced fencing, my travels and hiking adventures all over the world, and hundreds of other moments. Nothing is taken verbatim from life, but altered to move the story forward.
4. Are you working on anything else at the moment?
I just finished editing Part II of Mover of Fate and plan to release it his Fall. I’m an artist as well (The books are illustrated, by the way) and am working on a new body of paintings that have to do with exploration. Each one features a different explorer or place that I have traveled to or plan to visit. Each one involves different explorations of paint, inviting viewers to become active visual explorers themselves. They will be included in shows in Los Angeles, New York, and Berlin this summer.
5. Who is your favourite author?
Probably Kurt Vonnegut, but it has been a while since I read one of his books. I’d have to reread Breakfast of Champions and see if it still floats my boat as much as I remember.
