Toronto Youth Shorts is Ontario's largest youth-focused film festival, run by a volunteer force of savvy young professionals with a passion for film and grassroots community engagement.
We are currently seeking long-term dedicated volunteers to assist with programming short film content for our 15th edition of the film festival.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Programmers would work with the Festival Director in reviewing festival submissions, providing a critical eye based on lived experiences in selecting relevant works that form the festival's film lineup. The ideal candidate will be a young professional with either a high interest or relevant experience in arts programming/curation, particularly in the fields of visual storytelling and cinema. This is a great opportunity for those with relevant skills or previous experience that are applicable to such a role who are interested in working with a small team as part of a established film festival celebrated by the community. We highly encourage BIPOC candidates and those that identify as being from underrepresented communities to apply.
COMMITMENT
The team is expected to start in March and will last until the festival's postmortem report in end of November.
March - April: Candidates will be expected to attend local events to source content and network
May - September: Review submissions online, meet once every two weeks virtually to discuss content
October - November: Prepare for festival including gathering and creating materials, on-site event execution, post-event reporting
The festival is held in downtown Toronto and while we would prefer candidates be able to be on-site on the day of the festival, remote opportunities are available for those outside of the Greater Toronto Area.
Our flexible schedule allows for candidates to work or study while simultaneously performing the duties required by the festival. High school candidates can use the work towards their OSSD required volunteer hours.
HOW TO APPLY
If you are interested in helping out at this year's festival, please send a resume to Henry Wong, Festival Director at torontoyouthshorts@gmail.com along with a statement on why you would like to join and what you bring to the table. Please include "2024 Festival Programmer" in the subject line. Application deadline is February 23, 2024.
