A canoe instructor who hurled a skateboard around outside a Dundee hostel then flashed police in a gender row has been released from custody.
Alannah Morgan – who appears on court rolls as also being known as Alan – appeared from the cells at Dundee Sheriff Court on Friday to admit charges of acting in a threatening or abusive manner.
The 50-year-old admitted that on March 23 this year, she repeatedly shouted and swore at Brewery Lane in Dundee before throwing a skateboard around and kicking bins.
Morgan, of no fixed abode, also admitted shouting, swearing, acting aggressively and making offensive remarks to police during a journey between the hostel and West Bell Street HQ.
While in a police vehicle, she struck the internal cell door, exposed her buttocks, spat inside the cell and pulled down her trousers, exposing her genitals.
Flashing was ‘not a sexual act’
The court was told Morgan had become irate and was asked to leave the hostel, where she had been staying for around five months.
She had shouted at staff who worked there.
When police arrived, she continued her tirade in the rear of the vehicle, calling officers “piggy f****” and stating “all cops are b*******”.
Her solicitor James Caird said the canoe instructor exposing her genitals was not a sexual act but was “a demonstration” in an argument she was having about gender.
“There are mental health problems on the part of Ms Morgan.
“She suffers from anxiety and has medication for that.
“At the time of this particular matter, she was living in the hostel.
“I understand from her that she wasn’t taking her medication.
“Her behaviour had altered.”
Accepts she ‘lost the plot’
He continued: “She got into an argument with one of the staff there.
“She believed the staff member behaved aggressively towards her.
“She accepts that she lost the plot. She accepts the criminality.
“She’s been remanded since March 24. She’s back on her medication. She’s her usual calm self today.
“She seems to have got herself into a frenzy.
“As I understand it, she has transitioned her gender. It’s been difficult, remanded at Cornton Vale.
“She’s been kept in isolation. I’m not entirely sure why.
“There are issues with these things.”
Sheriff Kirsty Hood released Morgan on bail to an address in Newtyle.
She will be sentenced on May 10.
