ALAMEDA — Donations to the Alameda Education Foundation’s “Equipped 4 Success” school supply drive will be accepted at the city’s fire stations through Aug. 4.

The annual drive, launched in 2012, provides students with new backpacks and other supplies so that they are ready to learn when public schools start on Aug. 21.

“Many in our community struggle with poverty,” said Vicki Sedlack, the foundation’s executive director. “But by working together as a community, we can make sure that our most vulnerable students have the quality school supplies they need to help them be successful in school.”

Along with dropping off items at a fire station, people can support the drive by making a financial donation online at www.AlamedaEducation.org or by mailing a check to AEF, P.O. Box 1363, Alameda, CA, 94501.

The Alameda Education Foundation works with community partners to reach students who are most in need, including through the McKinney-Vento homeless program of the Alameda Unified School District; the Alameda Collaborative for Children, Youth and their Families; the Alameda Boys and Girls Club; the Alameda Point Collaborative; Alameda Head Start; Dream Catchers Youth Services; Girls Inc. of the Island City; and Operation Dignity, which supports homeless veterans.
