Sharjah: Al Qasimiyah University is making preparations to launch officially this coming April after the admission of 250 students from 45 different nationalities.

The students from outside the UAE were chosen through specialised committees that conducted acceptance tests in Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Dr Rashad Mohammad Salem, Al Azhar University Professor and Director of the university, said that the vision of the new university is that of the old Azhar University which depends in its studies on the Holy Quran, the Prophet’s Hadeeth, the Arabic language and the graduation of models.

Salem added that His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, considers this university to be a gift from him to the world. He also added that launching the university was accompanied by the celebration of Sharjah being chosen the capital of Islamic culture in 2014.

Dr Rashad also pointed out that the university began in the first phase with four colleges: Theology (Sharia), Arts (Arabic and History), College of Economy and the College of Communication. There is also a language teaching centre to teach non-Arabic students the Arabic language, as well as English language classes for those who are not proficient

He explained that all these colleges rely on Islamist data compared to others in order to bring out the true face of Islam in all aspects and areas of life.

He noted that the scientific disciplines at the university will come successively as a second stage, and most notably the College of Engineering and specialisations that include Islamic architecture.
