FIRST FRIDAY COFFEE - May 3rd 7:30am
A Spectacular, Spectacular Event! May 17 & 18th
Join us on Friday, May 17 for Family & Friends Night or Saturday, May 18 for The ACMA Spectacular Gala event.
The evening features art and performances by all of our departments: Dance, film, theatre, choir, drawing, music, painting, photography, ceramics, writing, animation, sculpture, and more. Part live performance and part art show, both evenings are a celebration of everything we love about ACMA.
All proceeds (from ticket and art sales to raffle baskets and concessions) will benefit the ACMA PTO and your dollars will directly support and benefit ACMA students, teachers, and school-wide programs.
What if we got every department together to create the most spectacular show ACMA has ever seen? What if parents could bring kids, alumni were welcome, and everyone could walk away with a piece of ACMA? I'm guessing that tickets will sell out fast... Read More
Tickets are now available on the ACMA PTO website for this Spectacular event!

May 8th Day of ACTION
Due to inadequate and unstable state school funding, the District will be reducing an estimated $35 million for the 2019-2020 school year. Based on information available at this time, this may lead to a reduction of 200 licensed positions, resulting in layoffs and involuntary staff transfers. To that end, the Beaverton Education Association (BEA) notified the District of their intent to participate in a May 8, 2019 walkout “Day of Action” event sanctioned by the Oregon Education Association (OEA). The purpose of the walkout is to draw statewide attention to the need for adequate funding for K-12 education after three decades of instability.
The May 8 walkout impacts our ability to safely operate schools. Therefore, we have determined May 8 will be a non-student day, with the exceptions noted below.
- AP/IB testing (to be proctored by administrators and classified staff; transportation will be provided, routes TBD)
- Previously scheduled Outdoor School taking place the week of May 6
- Extra-curricular athletics and activities
- Free student breakfast and lunch at limited sites, TBD
- After school programs currently in place (contact provider for hours of operation)
- Students attending Early College High School (licensed staff will not report)
BEA has agreed to a reduction of the contractual work year from 198 licensed days to 197 licensed days. Therefore, May 8 will be an unpaid day for all licensed employees, and the day will not be made up. The savings will help mitigate next year’s anticipated staff reductions.
We support the goal and urgency of convincing the Legislature to make a significant new investment in Oregon schools, however, we regret a walkout prohibits us from safely operating schools and the impact this decision will have on students and families. Therefore, May 8 will be an administrator-directed work day for classified staff allowing adequate supervision of the limited activities outlined above.
Further details will be forthcoming. The Beaverton School District will continue to tirelessly advocate for adequate and stable school funding for our students.
Don Grotting, Superintendent
2019-2020 BSD Budget and potential impact at ACMA
- An anticipated District-wide shortfall of $35 million for 2019-20
- District-wide personnel reductions that include administrative, teacher and classified staff
- A budget reduction of 15% across schools
- An increase in student-teacher ratio/class sizes
- Elimination of funding for PYP coordinators and PYP world language teachers (among other programs)
- Reduction of elementary intervention teachers from full-time to half-time
Our classroom staffing allocation will potentially decrease by 4 teachers. This could change in the coming months as enrollment numbers settle and the budget picture becomes more clear.
I encourage all parents to stay informed of the BSD BUDGET PROCESS and participate as you see fit. We are also dependent on Oregon State Legislative decisions that can either add to or detract from our funding estimates.

State Assessment Score Reporting - Student Test Results in ParentVUE
The administration of our state assessments will take place between May 13th and May 24th. State test scores will be available in ParentVUE! You will be able to see your child’s test results sooner than in prior years with less impact on the environment. For the English Language Arts and Math tests, a student’s score is available in ParentVUE two weeks after both parts of the test are completed. Due to the implementation of the new state science test this year, science scores will not be available until next fall after passing scores are identified by the Oregon Department of Education. The Testing Information tab in ParentVUE has links to additional information about your child’s scores. If you need assistance activating a ParentVUE account, please contact your child’s school. Learn more about ParentVUE. Please note: these scores are not currently available in the ParentVue phone app. Students whose parents/guardians do not have an active ParentVUE account will receive a paper report of test scores. Paper score reports with English Language Arts and Math test results with will be sent home with students on the last day of school. Score reports will be mailed over the summer for students with English Language Arts and Math test results that arrive after the paper score reports are printed in June. Students with at least one parent/guardian with ParentVUE access may request a printed report by contacting Kay Jenkins by email at kay_jenkins@beaverton.k12.or.us or by phone at 503.356.4594.

Erin's Law
What Is Erin’s Law?
In 2015, the Oregon legislature passed SB 856, also known as Erin’s Law. Erin’s Law requires the development and adoption of child sexual abuse prevention programs for students in
kindergarten through 12th grade in all Oregon public schools. SB
856 mandates that all Oregon Public Schools provide:
- A minimum of 4 instructional sessions (equal to or greater than a standard class period) of sex abuse prevention instruction per year for grades kindergarten through 12.
- Sexual abuse instruction that is integrated and part of required district comprehensive sexuality education plan and is aligned with state standards.
- Instruction that is age appropriate, medically accurate, and is not shame or fear based.
- Instruction that is culturally inclusive and is responsive to diverse students including race, ethnicity, gender identity and sexual orientation.
ACMA will begin implementing the 4 Erin’s Law lessons starting in May. Skills addressed in the lessons include techniques to recognize sexual abuse, effective communication skills to establish boundaries, and skills to tell a trusted adult.
In all areas, parents and guardians are a child’s first and most influential teachers. Parents, guardians and schools share a common goal: we want students of all ages to be valued, respected, and safe in all aspects of their lives. Additional information on Erin’s Law can be found on the district website listed below:
