The RDS - more than just research design
Did you know that the RDS offers more than just research design? We offer high quality and responsive specialist advice on all aspects of research funding applications including: 
- building an appropriate team
- research methods (qualitative and quantitative)
- identifying suitable sources of funding
- involving patients and public in research design
- identifying potential academic, clinical
and lay collaborators.
Our research advisers offer a unique breadth of expertise and a proven track record in improving research applications. They can also signpost to other sources of help where appropriate, such as costings. Our advice is confidential and free of charge.

 New website launched for the NIHR Journals Library
A new website for the NIHR Journals Library has launched. By incorporating project information into the existing wealth of open access data, the new site provides access to the full story of NIHR-funded research projects.
This change will help to increase the impact of NIHR research, so that evidence is shared more effectively with the NHS and wider public health landscape. It will also help to ensure that research results are more easily reproduced and that there is a transparent record of the research carried out. Read more or watch the short video to find out more.

 Patient involvement increases public confidence in health research
An Ipsos MORI survey has shown that public confidence in health research studies can be increased by knowing that patients have advised on the design of the study. The survey also suggests that by having health researchers communicate the fact that patients and the public have been involved in the designing of the research when approaching potential study participants, it could lead to a boost in recruitment.
It also highlights the importance of building awareness of the benefits of patient and public involvement in health research. Find out more.

Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme - commissioned calls
The HTA commissioned workstream commissions research proposals that address specific topics or themes, as identified by the HTA boards and panels. There are three rounds a year (opening March, July and October) containing up to 20 separate call topics. View the list of commissioned topics.

Public Health Research Programme (PHR) - researcher-led calls
The PHR Programme funds research to generate evidence to inform the delivery of non-NHS interventions intended to improve the health of the public and reduce inequalities in health. The following researcher-led funding opportunities are currently available:
- 16/131 standard outline proposal
- 16/132 evidence synthesis full proposal*
