The FDNY is hosting a citywide open house for four precious hours to mark its 150th anniversary. (Bring your calendars!) This means you may be able to catch a glimpse of one of the FDNY cats of Instagram.

On May 2nd, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., every firehouse and most emergency medical services stations will roll up their doors and let the public in. The opening times will be staggered to limit the impact of crowds on firefighting operations (one block starting at 11 a.m. and the other at 1 p.m.), according to FDNY spokesman Frank Dwyer. The Fire Department's answer to Open House New York offers the agency a unique opportunity to recruit, show off their gear, and preach about fire safety and first aid.

Some anonymous smoke eaters with FDNY Rant message board accounts grumbled at the upcoming intrusion, according to the Post—"We are not fucking circus clowns," a probationary firefighter reportedly wrote.

The Fire Department is also marking the sesquicentennial by temporarily appropriating the New York Rangers' logo.

More information about the open house festivities is supposed to be made available in the next week at www.nyc.gov/FDNY.
