A-Treat will be revived by Lehigh Valley businessman

The Lehigh Valley businessman who began courting A-Treat shortly after the company closed its doors announced Tuesday he's reviving the brand.

Paul Eifler reached an agreement Friday to purchase the A-Treat name, trademark and flavor formulas from the Allentown institution that closed its doors abruptly in January after nearly a century in business. Brothers Joseph and Jack Egizio founded the company in 1918, moving to 2001 Union Blvd. in 1932.

The company notified customers Jan. 23 that it had ceased operations. Eifler, a partner in Ameriprise Financial Services in Salisbury Township, sent a letter to company officials about two weeks later, expressing his interest in purchasing the business and resuming production.

Eifler said Tuesday the agreement signed last week allows him to start contacting previous retailers and former employees about renewing the brand. He hopes to resume production in two to three months.
