A search for a missing 61-year-old man with medical conditions from Vancouver has taken a twist.

The Vancouver Police Department announced today (July 17) that they have reopened the search for David Sullivan.

The search for Sullivan began on July 5 when the VPD stated in a news release that Sullivan, who was reported missing to police on July 1, had been last seen on June 27 near Gore and Alexander streets in the Downtown Eastside.

Then on July 9, the VPD renewed its call for help in locating Sullivan after finding surveillance footage that captured him on June 29 in the same area.

Following that discovery, the VPD announced on July 11 that Sullivan had been located in the U.S. and that his family had been notified.

However, today (July 17), the VPD confirmed that the person who was located is not Sullivan.

VPD spokesperson Cst. Steve Addison stated in a news release that investigators are working with law enforcements agencies in B.C. and across Canada, as well as Sullivan’s family, to locate him.

As Sullivan has now been missing for over three weeks, Cst. Addison stated that they are “gravely concerned” about his health and well-being, as he has both dementia and diabetes.

Sullivan is described as a white male with fair skin who is bald, has a round face, and has a heavy build. He is between 178 to 183 centimetres (five-feet, ten inches to six-feet) tall.

On June 27, he had had been seen wearing a red-and-white checkered-pattern shirt, shorts, and flip-flops.

The surveillance footage from June 29 showed him wearing a red-and-white checkered short-sleeved shirt and pants, and he was carrying a blue bag that appears to be a gym bag.

He is also known to wear a tag around his neck with his address on it.

Anyone who sees Sullivan should call 911 and stay with him until help arrives.
