1 Hotels eco-luxury brand makes debut

Barry Sternlicht's Starwood Capital Group has opened its first property under the 1 Hotels eco-luxury brand in Miami Beach. 1 Hotel & Homes South Beach has 426 guestrooms, 600 feet of beachfront and a food-and-beverage operation headed by chef Tom Colicchio. The hotel has a 112-foot-long rooftop pool and plans to add an 18,000-square-foot spa by the end of the year. Rates start at about $700 a night.

Fairmont set to take over swank Grand Del Mar in San Diego

The lavish Grand Del Mar in San Diego will gain a new name: Fairmont. The luxury hotel brand soon will take over management of the Forbes five-star and AAA five-diamond hotel. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts operates the Plaza in New York City and the Savoy in London, among others. The luxury hotel company will take over day-to-day operations under a long-term agreement, it said in a statement.

While Caribbean luxury resorts are not known for their local, sustainable food menus, Rosewood is setting about to change all that. The classic Little Dix Bay property, the private island resort of Jumby Bay, and the soon-to-open Rosewood at Baha Mar have each committed to sourcing as much food locally as possible — both from farmers in nearby communities and the resorts' own gardens — for use in the hotels' eclectic kitchens.

International hotel room aggregator Preferred Hotels has chalked out a $3.5-million revamp plan. In an interview with ET's Varuni Khosla, the company's chief executive, Lindsey Ueberoth, says India is one of the most important markets for Preferred.

The boutique hotels sprouting up in Valletta, Malta, would need to collaborate, sharing functions like administration and marketing if they are to survive, David Spiteri, the general manager of Infinitely Xara insisted. This is partly because the small number of rooms makes it very challenging to cover overheads. But it is also because there may simply be too many of them for all of them to survive.

Portland, Oregon's, boutique hotel mogul buys out Sentinel stake
Portland Business Journal
The group that owns half of a prominent Portland, Oregon, hotel said recently it'll purchase the whole shebang. Provenance Hotels will buy the 50 percent share held by Woodbine Development Corp. in Sentinel, formerly The Governor Hotel. The move marks Provenance's third acquisition already in 2015.

Taj group to launch luxury hotel near the Burj Khalifa in Dubai

India-based hospitality player Taj Group said it would launch a luxury hotel project in Dubai, near the iconic Burj Khalifa area. The hotelier said the project at Dubai will have 296 rooms, iclub rooms, 16 junior suites and 15 luxury Suites with panoramic views of Burj Khalifa, dancing fountains and the Dubai Mall.
