WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 19, 2015) – Third-seeded William & Mary won its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Tennis title in 10 years and fourth in program history on Sunday with a 4-1 triumph over fourth-seeded College of Charleston.

The Tribe (16-12), who earn the CAA’s automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship, clinched the title in exciting fashion in front of their home fans at the McCormack Nagelsen Tennis Center, an indoor facility, on campus in Williamsburg.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, the Tribe women won the CAA title (also beating CofC) outdoors at the Millie West Tennis Facility, but rain caused the men’s title match to be moved inside for the singles portion.

The Cougars, appearing in the league championship title match for the second straight season, conclude the 2015 season with a 15-10 record.

The Green and Gold jumped out to an early advantage in doubles to start the afternoon. William & Mary’s No. 1 team of Will Juggins and Aaron Chaffee beat CofC’s Brice Allanic and Alon Faiman, 8-5, before the Tribe clinched the point when their No. 3 team, Christian Cargill and Damon Niquet, got past the Cougars’ Josh Record and Rodrigo Encinas, also by a score of 8-5.

Leading 3-1 after singles wins from Damon Niquet (No. 4) and Alec Miller (No. 6), the Tribe needed just one more match to claim the CAA title.

That's when senior Will Juggins, the four-time All-CAA honoree, rose to the occasion. He claimed the first set, 6-4, from Rodrigo Encinas, and in the final game of the second set, Juggins broke the two-time all-league pick for a 6-4 win, setting off the Tribe’s championship celebration. Fellow seniors Aaron Chaffee and Zach Braig mobbed Juggins in jubilation and were quickly joined the rest of the Green and Gold. It marked Juggins’ 14th win of the year and 10th in dual-match competition.

The Tribe made their 10th CAA Championship match appearance since the tournament format was introduced in 1991 and its ninth under head coach Peter Daub. The program also makes its first NCAA appearance since 2007, when it last advanced as an at-large participant.

The Cougars earned a spot in the title match after defeating two-time defending CAA champion UNCW (No. 63 ITA ranking) by a score of 4-3 in the semifinals on Saturday. It was also the team’s first victory over a nationally ranked foe this season.
