Update on Wado Kai Central Karate

The Wado Kai Central Karate team attended the British International Championship on the 30th September. This was a fantastic championship to challenge their athletes but they done themselves and their club very proud.

They returned home with: 1 Gold, 4 Silver and 7 Bronze. Kian Burns is the first in the club to return home as a British International Gold medallist.

The Scottish Karate Federation team which WKC have 5 members in the team headed off to Berlin on the 6th October to compete in the Banzi Cup. All 4 members fought extremely well and were very unlucky not to return home with any medals but all were just one round away from the podium at such a high level competition.

On Friday 13th October WKC took 12 kids to Luxembourg to compete in the Coupe de Kayl. Out of all the trips we have had this was the most important to WKC. This trip was for all the kids to go to and was not a selection. The club instructors wanted to give every child in the club an opportunity to experience traveling abroad as a squad and competing in an international competition. Our team was made up of kids ages 9 – 16. They used the last of SST’s funding to pay for the entry fees and the rest of the trip was funded by their parents. The children done extremely well and we returned home with: 2 Silver,5 Bronze medals. This is more than the coaches ever imagined we would achieve.

The parents and children can’t wait to book up for next year. After the competition they were in Luxembourg square having our dinner and the children were entertaining the locals by performing kata in the square. Everyone was out with cameras filming the team. On the way home on the public bus we were entertaining the locals with all our favourite Scottish songs including ‘You cannae shove your grannie off the bus’ . This is what this trip was about the medals were a bonus.
