Justice Nanavati passes away

He headed probe for 1984 anti-Sikh riots and 2002 Gujarat riots

Former judge of Supreme Court Justice G T Nanavati passed away at the age of 86 years on Saturday morning. His funeral took place at Thaltej crematorium in the evening. Sitting and former judges as well as lawyers paid tribute to the departed soul.
After retirement, Justice Nanavati he was appointed as Chairman of the 1984-anti Sikh riots probe panel constituted in 2000. He was also chairman of the inquiry commission set up to probe the 2002 Gujarat riots.
He died at his home, leaving behind his wife and two sons, Maulik and Dhaval, who are practising lawyers in Gujarat High Court. “A doctor, who lives in the same apartments, tried to revive him but to no avail,” senior lawyer Yatin Oza told Mirror.
Justice Nanavati was born on February 17, 1935 and enrolled as advocate in Bombay HC in 1958.
