Eater’s roving restaurant editor Bill Addison dropped his annual Best New Restaurants in America list today, including Los Angeles’ very own Felix Trattoria. The critic used the local Eater Heatmaps to guide his dining adventures, selecting only restaurants opened between May 2016 and May 2017.

It’s little surprise the Evan Funke’s long anticipated follow up to Bucato made the list, as Los Angeles, and, apparently the rest of the country, is on an Italian food tear, with Addison describes these sorts of Italian-American restaurants as serving “carby, saucy, cheesy, herby, garlicky sustenance for which the human soul lusts.”

Felix is the best of the bunch, with the critic calling attention to the “focaccia that reinstates that often-botched bread’s good name, battered squash blossoms filled with delicate fior di latte and green garlic, and pastas, so many pastas.” Addison isn’t the first critic to call attention to Funke’s pasta wizardry, with LA Weekly’s Besha Rodell recently concluding that the “food is goddamned delicious.”
