The Companies Hiring The Most Tech Talent Right Now

This article is more than 9 years old.

Yesterday, Forbes reported on The Companies Hiring Most Right Now, and found that the bulk of the listed job openings required tech skills, even those in industries like healthcare and financial services.

To get a sense of which companies currently have the most job openings specifically for tech professionals, Forbes consulted with employment search site Indeed.com.

The companies listed here had the site’s greatest number of postings for tech jobs in the U.S. that pay $60,000 per year or more, as of April 7, 2015.

Indeed.com specifies that the picture offered does not reflect a precise number of available jobs. An opening can be listed in more than one place and can remain online for some time after it’s filled. Nevertheless, the numbers do offer a strong, broad gauge of the companies with the most open tech jobs across the country today.

“It’s good to see many traditional tech businesses in this list, particularly against the backdrop of an economic climate and hiring market that is much more competitive than in recent years," said Indeed Chief Economist Tara Sinclair.

"However, the fact that the majority of businesses in this list are focused on technology – and subsequently more likely to be hiring larger numbers of tech candidates – only tells part of the story. We would expect the Amazons of this world to be looking to hire significant numbers of tech staff – but the shortage of tech candidates isn't just affecting Silicon Valley successes, it’s also a challenge for the wave of non-tech businesses – hundreds and thousands of organizations across the U.S. – all of whom increasingly rely on technology to function."

At the top of the list is aerospace and defense company Lockheed Martin , with nearly 2,000 job openings currently posted, including Instructional Systems Designer, Aeronautical Engineer, and Network Data Communications Analyst. In second place is online marketplace Amazon, which is currently seeking a Design Technologist, Operations Manager, and Embedded Software Development Engineer.

Not all of the companies that make this ranking have technology as a central focus. JPMorgan Chase and UnitedHealth Group join the ranking in 20th and 23rd places, respectively, each with more than 600 technology-related jobs currently open.

Sinclair notes that the hunt for tech talent is a priority for companies across industries, not just in the tech space.

"Each and every one of these businesses – whatever their sector – is looking for tech talent, albeit on a smaller scale than we see from the names on this list. The good news is that based on research at Indeed we are seeing growing interest in tech roles from a wider range of candidates, but a gap still remains to be filled.”
