“I went from doctor to doctor for about eight months until I found somebody that had the knowledge of Lyme disease and the experience of treating it,” the singer told GMA, adding that the disease had left her more or less bedridden for months.

Now, courtesy of a stringent diet and exercise routine and copious rest (“I’ve never had this much downtime in my life,” the singer said), Avril is getting back on her feet. On the show, she shared “Fly,” her first new song since 2013. The track is dedicated to the Special Olympics, and accordingly, the video stars some of the event’s star athletes. As Avril put it, with “Fly” she wanted “to show the world that they can overcome challenges and that everyone is meant to shine.”
