The funeral for high school teacher Stephanie Scott, whose body was found in bushland outside Leeton, will be held in her hometown of Canowindra next week, the town's Anglican priest has confirmed.

The Reverend Jonno Williams of All Saints Anglican Church said the funeral would most likely be held next Wednesday, but that he was meeting Ms Scott's family on Thursday afternoon to confirm the details.

It is understood the service, which is to be conducted by Mr Williams, will be held at an outdoor location in Canowindra so as to accommodate the 1000 mourners expected to attend.

Canowindra, a small town near Cowra in the state's central west and where Ms Scott met her fiance Aaron Leeson-Woolley, is a 3½ hour drive from Leeton, where the 26-year-old was a drama and English teacher at Leeton High School.

Last Saturday, hundreds of residents from Leeton - a town of about 6700 people - gathered in Mountford Park for a memorial picnic, organised by Ms Scott's family.

It was the same day Ms Scott was due to have married Mr Leeson-Woolley.

The body of the popular school teacher was recovered from bushland north of Griffith on Friday, five days after she was allegedly killed by Vincent Stanford, a cleaner at Leeton High School.

An autopsy on Tuesday formally identified Ms Scott.

Mr Stanford, 24, was charged with murder last Thursday after police allegedly found blood in a vehicle and a photograph on a camera of what is believed to be a burnt body.

Correction: an earlier version of this story stated the population of Leeton as 2000. This has been corrected.
